Packing for Summer in Hermanus

Comfort, a touch of glamour, versatility, and being ready for coastal weather.

Packing formulas are a fabulous guideline to creating a capsule wardrobe. Ideal for Christmas holidays in Hermanus, beach days, golf days, wine estates, brisk walks on the Cliff Path and sundowners on Nannies Beach of Langbaai; here are two formulas to choose from:

The 5-4-3-2-1 Method
5 tops, 4 bottoms/dresses, 3 pairs of shoes, 2 dresses/bottoms, 1 swimsuit/extra item

For Women

5 x Tops – Think loose blouses and breathable tees, include one or two dressy options for wine estates, cocktail parties or special dinners.  Include a stylish cardigan or blazer for evenings.

4 x Bottoms – shorts & skirts, include at least one pair of jeans for those “off days”

3 x Shoes – think strappy sandals, smart pumps, espadrilles, Eva Birkenstocks, and one pair of trainers.

2 x Dresses – Strappy, floaty, or chic tailored; it all works as long as it says “summer”. if you’re more of “a dress kind of girl” swop some “bottoms” out and add more dresses in!

1 x Swimsuit – Whether you have a pool to lounge around or you’re heading to the sands at Langbaai, Kammabaai or Grotto Beach, you’re going to need your swimsuit.

Extras

Accessories – Sunglasses, scarf, hat, light windbreaker and comfortable walking shoes – for all 13 km of our fabulous Cliff Path or long Mountain walks in Fernkloof.

For Men

5 x Tops – A mix of tees, polos, and a button-down for dining out; and a casual blazer

4 x Bottoms – shorts, chinos, jeans

3 x Shoes – Loafers, trainers, Eva Birkenstocks or Haviana’s

2 x Layers – Sweater or Pull-Over for Layers

1 x Swimsuit – Baggies for the Beach!

Extras

Accessories – Sunglasses, cap, lightweight jacket and sturdy walking shoes

Other Essentials – Sunscreen, reusable water bottle, small backpack, camera, and travel adapter.

The 3-3-3 Method
3 Tops, 3 Bottoms, 3 Pairs of shoes

Create a mix-and-match capsule wardrobe. The goal of these formulas is to create a versatile wardrobe with fewer items, preventing overpacking.
